Course Details:
Project: Participants will collaborate on creating a small, simple, timber frame compost toilet.
Location: Saltash, Cornwall, United Kingdom
Date: October 4th/5th/6th
Cost: £100 per participant
Duration - 09:30-5pm each day
This course would usually cost at least £350+ per person to run, however we are doing a one-off low cost course to introduce more people to Holdfast, and in an a attempt to make woodworking courses accessible to people that often can’t access them due to prohibitive costs.
What to Expect:
We will use the Walter Segal method of construction. It is a simple and accessible form of timber framing that can be utilised readily by self builders to create structures including compost toilets, sheds, double story homes, and barns.
We will work over three days to begin the framework of a wheelchair accessible compost toilet, getting as far as we can over the time together.
We will look at lap joints, geometry for building, power tool and hand tool use. The course covers essential skills such as marking out, measuring, cutting the frame, assembly, and insights into timber technology, including tree biology and defects. Participants will gain hands-on experience, culminating in the construction of a timber frame compost toilet.
Tools Used:
Chisels, Saws, Mallets, Skill Saws, Drills, Drivers, as well as measuring and marking tools. All Tools will be provided.
Applicability of Skills:
The knowledge acquired during the course extends beyond the compost toilet project. You'll gain insights applicable to various structures and DIY projects. The course instructors, River, Charley, Annie and Alex will do there best to answer your questions, and help you with any knowledge that could help you in you’re projects.
Inclusive Environment:
