Join us for a 4 day course in Cornwall, focused on hands-on timber frame building, where you'll have the opportunity to work on a real building project using locally felled Douglas Fir from a sustainably managed woodland in Devon.

Course Details:

What to Expect:

We will delve into various timber frame building techniques, emphasizing safety and precision in tool usage. The course covers essential skills such as marking out, measuring, cutting the frame, assembly, and theoretical insights into timber technology, including tree biology and defects. Participants will gain extensive hands-on experience, culminating in the construction of a finished timber frame compost toilet.

Tools Used:

Chisels, Saws, Mallets, Skill Saws, Drills, Drivers, as well as measuring and marking tools will be utilized to achieve the project goals.

Applicability of Skills:

The knowledge acquired during the course extends beyond the compost toilet project. You'll gain insights applicable to various structures, empowering you to undertake DIY projects at home. The course instructors, River and Charley, have extensive experience as builders and tutors, and will be able to pass on their knowledge of the joinery techniques covered.
