Frame Making - June 14th/15th

Frame Making - June 14th/15th
FREE FOR TRANS/QUEER FOLK.
Come to the workshop and join us in learning how to make beautiful frames. You will be able to take one home with you.
The course is designed to demonstrate the production of a precision mitre joint. While there are various ways to build and reinforce a frame, our focus will be on achieving such a well-crafted joint that glue alone will hold it together. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to explore spline mitres—a more complex joint. A demonstration of this intricate technique will be provided, and participants interested in this method can learn how to fit splines.
As part of the workshop, we will create an MDF backboard, secure a picture hook, and apply oil to the frame, making it ready to hang immediately.
If you wish to make a frame of a specific size, bring along any artwork you'd like to frame, up to 30 x 30cm.
This course covers:
Mitre joints
Timber selection and defects
Router table usage
Safe working practices
Health and safety considerations for Chop Saw use
Chopsaw operation
Marking of mitres
Best practices for cutting
Mitre trimmers
Glueing/clamping techniques
Cabinet scrapers and sanding
Oils and finishes
A contribution toward the cost of the timber you choose will be needed, price TBC, but likely no more than £25 per frame. This will just cover the actual cost of your timber and materials.
This is an opportunity to bring Trans/Queer folk to meet and learn some new skills together, in a quiet workshop close to central Bristol.
